Drama in the Sixth Form at The King David High School offers students the opportunity to develop advanced performance, creative and analytical skills within a supportive and collaborative environment. 

The course encourages students to explore complex ideas through performance and theatre-making while developing confidence, creativity and critical thinking. Students engage with a wide range of theatrical styles and practitioners, allowing them to deepen their understanding of drama as both an art form and a means of communication. 

Through practical work, rehearsal processes and reflective evaluation, students develop the ability to interpret texts, create original performances and analyse theatre in a thoughtful and informed way. 

Drama at Sixth Form level challenges students to work both independently and collaboratively, preparing them for further study in the arts and for a wide range of professional pathways. 

 

Course Overview 

At Sixth Form level, students engage in advanced study of drama and theatre through a combination of performance, devising and theoretical analysis. 

Students develop their skills through: 

  • Performing and interpreting scripted plays 

  • Creating and developing original devised performances 

  • Studying key theatre practitioners and theatrical styles 

  • Analysing live and recorded theatre productions 

  • Exploring directing and staging decisions 

  • Reflecting critically on their own creative work 

The course encourages students to take creative risks, develop their own ideas and build confidence as performers, creators and critical thinkers.

 

Learning and Assessment 

Assessment in Drama includes both practical performance work and written analysis. 

Students are assessed through: 

  • Practical performance work 

  • Devised theatre projects 

  • Written analysis and evaluation of theatre 

  • Reflection on rehearsal processes and creative decisions 

Students receive regular verbal and written feedback throughout the course to support their development and help refine their performance and analytical skills. 

 

Enrichment and Performance Opportunities

Sixth Form Drama students benefit from a wide range of enrichment opportunities that enhance their learning and performance experience. 

These may include: 

  • Participation in school productions 

  • Theatre trips to professional productions 

  • Workshops with visiting theatre practitioners 

  • Drama clubs and performance events 

  • Opportunities to showcase work to audiences 

These experiences allow students to apply their skills in authentic performance contexts and deepen their understanding of professional theatre.

The skills developed through Drama are also highly valued in many other professions including teaching, law, media, marketing, business and arts administration, as well as across the wider creative industries.
