At The King David High School Sixth Form, Physical Education and Sport provide students with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of sport, physical performance and the wider sports industry. Students develop both practical and theoretical knowledge while building important transferable skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication and resilience.

We believe that sport plays an important role in promoting physical wellbeing, confidence and a positive lifestyle. Through both academic study and active participation, students are encouraged to develop a lifelong appreciation of physical activity and the values of teamwork, dedication and personal achievement.

The Sixth Form environment allows students to explore sport from a more analytical perspective while continuing to develop their own practical performance and leadership abilities.

Course Overview

BTEC Extended Certificate in Sport

In the Sixth Form, students can study the BTEC Extended Certificate in Sport, which provides a strong foundation for students interested in sport, health, fitness and related careers.
The course combines theoretical study with practical application, allowing students to develop knowledge of the science behind sport while evaluating performance and exploring the wider sports industry.

Course Structure

Year 12

Students complete two units during their first year:

Unit 1 – Anatomy and Physiology (External Examination)

Unit 7 – Practical Sports Performance (Coursework Assessment)

Students take part in a range of sports and are assessed on their ability to perform and evaluate their performance in both individual and team activities.

Year 13

Students complete the following units:

Unit 2 – Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Wellbeing (External Examination)

Teaching and learning combine a range of approaches, including:

  • Group discussion and independent research

Students are encouraged to reflect on their own performance and apply theoretical knowledge to real sporting contexts.
